After a longer than comfortable wait for Sage, business partners and, of course, end-users, the compatibility statement for Windows 7 has been released by Sage.

With the installation of a downloadable Hot Fix, Windows 7 can be run with Sage MAS 90 and 200 version 4.30.0.18 (all service updates must be installed) and versions 4.40 and 4.40.0.1. It is suspected that your IT department feels this is long overdue.

941 Form Updates for 2010 Available

Quoting Sage Support pages:

Quarterly 941 Printing has been updated for the 2010 IRS changes to the 941 Form. The changes are only applicable to the Report Format ‘Entire Form’ and ‘Worksheet’ since the changes are in the text of the 941 Form. Also the year has changed on the ‘Entire Form’. The IRS has not made any changes to the Schedule B for 2010.

NOTE: The “Pre-printed Form” format has been designed based on the downloaded 941.pdf from the IRS website. If you use the “Pre-printed Form” format the alignment may need to be adjusted or the form may need to be modified.

To download the file, log on to Sage Software Online and follow this link to the support pages.

Sage Releases Updated Roadmap

In reading the initial Sage MAS 90 and 200 Roadmap, you may have noticed there were some details missing. In response to requests to provide a more complete picture of the near future, Sage has updated the Roadmap to include more details about the scheduled product updates which incorporate Sage Extended Solutions titles to build new features into the version 4.4 release. These titles, which were previously sold for additional licensing fees are being included as product updates as a benefit to maintaining your software subscription/maintenance plan. Sage reinforces that the Roadmap is a view of planning and progress and if plans change or are updated, the Roadmap will be updated accordingly.MAS_90_200_Roadmap_03_2010

Feedback for MAS 90 and 200

Because I regularly participate in giving feedback to Sage and their development group, last week I received an invitation to the latest avenue for sharing thoughts and ideas to improve MAS 90 and 200. It has been said before that, along with the module install-base (the number of businesses using each module), this input has a great effect on the enhancements that are included with each version release and future plans included with the Road Map, Sage’s long-view for the products’ plans.

This website allows visitors to suggest ideas, vote up the popularity of ideas, leave commentary and discuss ideas. Content from Ideascope has been transferred but not everything made it so you are encouraged to re-post anything you think is valuable. Registration is free and requires only a valid email address.

MAS 90 and MAS 200 4.4 Supported Platform Matrices

With the release of MAS 90 and MAS 200 version 4.4 Sage has published the new Supported Platform Matrices (SPM) for both MAS 90 and MAS 200. A departure from releases in the past, there are separate documents for version 4.4 and prior versions. While it may not affect a large number of users, another departure with the 4.4 SPM is the absence of support for Novell.

You can find the current SPM (including references to Windows 7 compatibility: 4.3 and 4.4 will be supported, earlier versions will not) by following these links:

Sage Updates Plans for FRx Replacement

Since Sage’s notice as a response to Microsoft’s decision to discontinue development of FRx, there has been a great deal of speculation as to what the ultimate outcome would be. During a recent discussion in the MAS 90 and MAS 200 Users and Consultants, Erik Kaas (Director, Product Management at Sage Software) confirmed that Sage has “established an OEM Alchemexrelationship with a business intelligence (BI) vendor (Alchemex) that offers advanced financial reporting, operational reporting, and advanced OLAP analysis capabilities.” He went on to explain Sage MAS customers (I assume only those with current software/maintenance plans) will be licensed for one free user of Alchemex with the option of purchasing additional licenses. He also made a point to note Sage will work on keeping future releases of MAS 90 backwards compatible with FRx.

Jacqueline Li (Product Manager at Sage) clarified that it is Alchemex’s Smart Reporting Stack (with a similar drill-down function to FRx) that will be available  but the development plan includes  bringing Analytics and Web Reporting along for MAS 90 users. are under construction. Erika Jelovsek (Senior Product Manager, Sage) further clarified that the free license will be released later in the calendar year as a product update after the initial release of version 4.4.
