Sage MAS ERP Intelligence Promotions

With the introduction of Sage MAS ERP Intelligence (SMI), Sage has granted each system, at no additional charge, a license for one SMI Report Manager. Now Sage is offering two SMI promotions until January 31, 2011.

  • Current users can purchase the Connector module at 50% off the product price (without the Connector, only one database is available for reporting which means the Connector is required for consolidated reports).
  • The product cost of the Report Designer (which adds design features to the included Report Manager) will be waived by Sage but regular maintenance will still apply.

More information is available about SMI including FAQs, product brochures, installation guides and links to Sage University for training options.

Online User Group Scheduled

The next edition of the Sage MAS 90/200 User Group meeting is just around the corner. In previous meetings we have looked at ways to improve cash flow through Credit and Collections Management and BizInsights (the financial reporting tool from BizNet).

During this meeting, we will be showcasing some of the best features Sage has developed and included in the latest Product Updates. These are features that are bundled together and shipped as a part of your annual Business Care agreement. As with each User Group meeting, we will conclude with the Open Forum, an opportunity for anyone attending to raise an issue, pose a question, or suggest a topic for the group to resolve, answer, or discuss. Seats are limited at this meeting so please register early.

BizInsight and the BizNet Suite (Simply)

There is no good way to keep the names of all of the tools available for MAS 90 and 200 straight. After all, most of their titles include Business, Intelligence, and/or Insight.

This one minute overview will help clarify what BizInsights is, how it works, and what other pieces of the suite are.

Understanding Email Security

Although designed to address security for webmail (email accessed through an internet browser like Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome (specifically Gmail or Google Apps), the Gmail Security Checklist is worth a few of your minutes. Even if you don’t regularly use webmail at work, chances are you use it for a personal email account. The 18 point security review provides a quick review of some base-level measures we might take for granted (or might forget altogether).

It is also a reminder that updating your software (even your browser, plug-ins, extension, and third-party programs/tools) is a good idea and a valid measure to protect yourself, your data, and your network.

What’s New in Sage ERP MAS 90 and 200

Since the release of version 4.40 Product Update 3, Sage has published a one-page description of the features included in the release. The inclusion of compatibility with Microsoft Office 2010 is a new to this list (and not noted on the Chronicle of Enhancement Releases). Sage has also issued hot fixes to correct two previously reported issues as well as an issue with Paperless Office and General Ledger Journals.

Sage Summit: Virtual Event

Each year Sage organizes separate conferences for partners (companies like Acuity Solutions in the Sage channel that service or support Sage’s software) and for customers (those companies that use Sage software to operate their businesses, otherwise known as end-users).

Beginning in 2011, Sage will merge these two conferences bringing the entire community together to learn and share information. In order to get the event off on the right foot and make sure the topics that matter are addressed, Sage will be hosting a free online virtual event on Thursday, November 18, 2010. The event is also designed to provide a preview of some of the sessions that will be available during the actual Sage Summit 2011 event which will be held in Washington, D.C.

Registration links to the Sage Summit Virtual Event are not yet available, but keep an eye on here, in the Acuity Newsletter, or your own email inbox for messages delivered by Sage.

WARNING: Product Update 3 (4.40.0.3)

Installing Product Updates can be tricky business and should not be done without consideration. Case in point: Product Update 3 (4.40.0.3) was released by Sage on September 27 and in just the first two full days, two issues have been uncovered.

Both issues were first reported by DFeller at the Sage MAS Community Forum.

  • /C Comments on Sales Orders are not included when the Sales Order is committed to Shipping Data Entry of Sales Order Invoice Data Entry. You may notice that the Inventory Item Comments are included. Resolution ID 529733
  • Bill Kit Components do not populate into Materials tab in Work Order Entry. Resolution ID 529655

Inside of an hour, Sage responded within the forum to confirm that they were working on a resolution. Until the hotfix is released (and you want Sales Order Invoice comments or Bill Kit Components is Work Order), do not install Product Update 3.

Windows 7 Compatibility For MAS 90 and 200

Versions 4.30 and 4.40 are both compatible with Windows 7 64-bit edition, but not without a little work. Program Fix LM4046-T and LM4045-T (for 4.30 and 4.40, respectively) resolve an issue with the PDF driver required for Paperless Office.

If you system has already been upgraded to 4.40.0.2 (or greater), the program fix is not required.
