Happy SysAdmin Day

It certainly can be thankless and most often it is not glamorous, so this Friday, take a moment to thank your SysAdmin for everything they make happen (your email, your applications) and everything they keep from happening (viruses). Happy SysAdmin Day!
Share your glory and/or horror stories in the comments.

Sage Summit Registration Is Open

There may be no better exposure to MAS 90 and MAS 200 than attending Sage Summit. Of course it take a full week including travel to and from Atlanta, GA, but you will find yourself surrounded by great resources. There are four days of learning with guided learning tracks if you choose to focus on one area:

  • Mastering the Essentials
  • Becoming a Power User
  • Exploring Integration
  • Looking Ahead at Product Futures
  • Administering and Implementing Your System
  • Report Writing Essentials
  • Business Building

Registration is open. If you have thoughts about Sage Summit, share them in the comments. Let me know what you think (good and bad) or if you are considering attending.

Who Talks Like This?

I suspect it is a result of monkey-see, monkey-do but at some point in time some writers got too smart for their own good and started using phrases like:

Best of breed/best in class
Ground-breaking
User-friendly
Robust
Interoperable
Turnkey
Cutting edge

Honestly, who talks like this? Well, I did once while introducing Acuity Solutions as an event sponsor. A (thankfully) blunt friend of mine was kind enough to point it out. After I thought about the nonsense I had spewed, I hung my head and vowed to change my ways.

In The Gobbledygook Manifesto, David Meerman Scott calls for the madness to stop. I find it infuriating to read stuff that is written in this vain and now that I know better, it’s tough to write that way. Please call me on it if you ever catch me slipping.

I hope this takes ground somehow and changes (again) the way we write.

Suggest A Feature For MAS 90 and MAS 200

Most likely it happens on a weekly basis: you close your eyes and wish MAS 90 would just   fill in the blank  . Until this month, to submit a feature request required a user name and password to the support pages.

Now, by visiting Sage’s Ideascope page, any user can submit a feature request. Ideascope offers some extra features of its own including the ability to review suggestions made by other users and the ability to track the submissions you have made.

Sage uses your annual software subscription and maintenance plan to fund their research and development and I learned at Sage Insights, the partner conference, that most of the features included with new releases are a result of suggestions users make. With Ideascope, it becomes much easier for users to participate in development. This should only make things better.
